Omoo is named after the Herman Melville book of the same title. This is a "narrative of adventures in the South Seas" and is where the word "beachcomber" originates. It was this idea of beach combing that struck us. The work uses ceramic plates with contact microphones. These plates are hit and rubbed with various types of mallets. The sounds are processed extensively. When making this structured improvisation, we acted like beachcombers searching for sounds within the plates.
